Its almost spring in Vancouver, BC. And I've heard that bacteria does not really start getting active and multiplying in the biological filter until 9 degree celcius water temperature.

I guess that's why we shouldn't really feed the koi until late March or early April as there is really no bacteria to get rid of the fish waste. And probably that there would be no bacteria in the fish stomach that are active enough to help them digest the food. Is it true that if you feed over winter that the food will rot in the fish stomach and kill them?
